Foundations Events partnered with Shane Ramer, owner and producer of That Sober Guy Radio, for the Innovations in Behavioral Healthcare 2016 conference. The podcast discusses alcoholism and addiction recovery, providing a platform for guests to speak their minds and share their stories in an honest, intimate format. It’s not just the guests that open up, though. Ramer also shares some of his personal story. During IIBH, he also talked about what inspired the popular podcast.
“When I started Sober Guy Radio (SGR) in 2014, my goal was to document my journey in recovery and share my story with the hope that someone else listening might be able to relate. As the community around SGR grew, I found a passion for a new goal, which was to help bridge the gap between many of those struggling addicts who would not get help because of their own judgments or issues with a 12-Step program or traditional treatment.”

Shane conducted live interviews throughout Innovations in Behavioral Healthcare 2016. Foundations Events and SGR’s goals aligned, allowing us a unique opportunity to further the conversation beyond formal conference presentations, giving our speakers’ innovative presentations some additional airtime and a wider audience.
“The fact is, many of us in today’s society struggle with mental health and substance abuse, and most do not talk about it. That is why it was amazing to see so many people come together to help bring awareness to mental health,” Ramer said. “As the podcast industry continues to grow, so does the recovery community, and it seems now more than ever many are speaking about their issues.”
